Greetings!
I am very proud to stand before you today as Netpia’s CEO, Lee Pan Jeong.
This year, Netpia is celebrating its 20 years of existence, with 20 years of global internet. We are very grateful for your support in the past 20 years.
If you look back at that time, we welcomed the birth of the 21st century as the 20th century ended. With the emergence of a new paradigm called the internet, the reorganization of a new order helped overcome the struggles caused by the global financial crisis, which were dark times in our history.
In the past 20 years, to be able to distinguish the various subjects in the cyber world of the internet, Netpia has made every effort to make internet brand names, trade names, especially Real Name domains be globally known.
In 1995, we were just a small domestic venture company called Internet Business Institute (IBI). Armed with our motto “Small land territory but with a large cyber digital footprint”, we had aimed to increase Korea’s global internet penetration and improve the cyber environment in the country. In 1997, more than a hundred years after the introduction of the automatic telephone lines to connect businesses with their customers, Netpia has introduced the use of Real Name Domains in cyberspace by allowing businesses and consumers to search the internet using their non-English native language. This technology has been applied to 95 non-English speaking countries and has spread the use of Real Name Domains in the world.
To be able to help small-medium enterprises in Korea keep up with the English structure of the fast-growing internet, Netpia had concentrated its efforts to develop its technology.
The last 20 years of Netpia can be defined as “Native Language Internet Name”, and we hope that the next 20 years we will be able to provide a Real Name Domain for everything.
To Be: Real Name Domain for Everyone, Everything
With our technology, we will be able to create a happy internet environment for businesses where they will be able to serve customers better and will not lose customers to other companies in cyberspace.
In the past 20 years, to be able to distinguish the various subjects in the cyber world of the internet, Netpia has made every effort to make internet brand names, trade names, especially Real Name domains be globally known.
Dr. Kil Nam Cheon, who has worked hard in his lifetime to introduce and develop the internet in Korea and Asia; Hon. Jonghwa Yu, previous governor of Red Cross who has fervently supported our cause for the dissemination of Real Name Domains from Korea; Cisco Korea CEO Yun Kim, who have helped us reach our goals in the quickest way possible; KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology Dean Mr. Dongman Lee, who has guided us though our journey in creating the design for the global internet address; Atty. Kijong Kim and Seoul University Center of Law and Technology Prof. Sangjo Jeong who have helped us in developing operational policies and the legal framework in implementing the local language internet address globally and Atty. Jongsu Yun, a pioneer in Korea’s court digitalization, who has helped us overcome countless crises and is instrumental in keeping the dream alive for the age of Real Name Domain.
As I look back through the many efforts, sweats and tears that have been given to this project by numerous internet and Hangeul experts here and abroad, and even to our critics who made us realize that life is not always rainbows and butterflies, Netpia extends our sincerest gratitude.
With countless people working together to publicize the use of the Real Name Domain in 95 countries, we have helped bridge the gap between businesses and users towards an accelerated internet future.
In the midst of overcoming our struggles, I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest gratitude to the government officials, guests, and stakeholders who have greatly helped us reach where we are today.
“A new connection never found in the world before”
All businesses and customers, everything and everyone, and their Real Name Domains will help build a globally linked internet.
To all those who have supported Netpia in the past 20 years, thank you always and we will do our best to return the favor.
